The Best Straw Hats And Their Look For Less Matches

#BrimmingWithStyle
I’ve always loved hats and happily welcome any opportunity to wear one. Sunny summer days are the perfect excuse!
The best hats can get very expensive. They are made from durable, UV protecting materials that hold their shape, making them perfectly packable for hot weather getaways (simply nest them into the center of your suitcase by surrounding them with folded clothing and even filling the bowl of the hat with socks or other lightweight clothing).
But you don’t have to spend a fortune to find a quality hat.
Typically, the rule of thumb is: the tighter the weave, the longer it lasts. And to make your job finding the perfect look for less easier, I’ve rounded up the best copycat styles at various prices.

Fedora Style Sun Hats
A large brimmed, summer hat beautifully frames your face and when tilted downward, provides a coy, little hiding place as well. Not to mention, all while protecting your skin from harmful rays.

Straw Cowboy Hats
Whether you’re heading off to Frontier Days, kicking back at the farm, or just watching the kids play soccer, a straw cowboy hat invokes a cool, casual attitude while keeping the sun off your face. The tighter the weave, the longer it will hold its shape.

Brimming With Style
The hat I’m wearing is one of my favorites. It’s a wide brimmed fedora by Eric Javits. It’s an investment piece, but it’s classic and will last for years to come.
But as you can see below, there are plenty of look for less matches if you’re not yet ready to splurge. I’ve even included a Eugenia Kim hat from luxury resale giants TheRealReal (a fantastic place to score a secondhand steal!).
No matter what your style, I hope you find something you’ll happily look forward to wearing.

Shape Up!
Keep your hats in shape by storing them on hat stands. These are the ones I use. Just be sure to dust off the tops of your hats during the off season (or just pop a sheet of acid free tissue paper over the tops).

Hi Erin – I am enjoying your blog and all the helpful advice. The Filofax (planner). I used an inexpensive vinyl 6 ring compact/personal size planner binder (The FranklinCovey365) from Target before kids. It was $15, but it worked and was extremely durable. After kids I tried to go lighter with digital, but I’m more organized with pen and paper. I’m wondering if I should save and buy a leather Filofax? Should it match the handbag/tote? I’ve had unsuccessful attempts at using the combined planner/wallets available and if it is a cheap small spiral notebook or moleskin it is lost in the pool bag. Or I find it later with my kids drawings on every page. How do I decide if I should go with a bold color (teal blue, yellow) or neutral classic black? Thank you.
Hi Chrystal, I’m so happy you’re finding my blog helpful! I know exactly what you mean about being more organized with pen/paper! It’s taken me a long time to be able to go fully digital because I wasn’t as fast as I was with a pen. Besides, there’s something very elegant about a smart day planner. I like something colorful, like Hermes orange or Tiffany teal. Yellow would be nice too, as long as it’s not too pale (would show wear). Those colors go well with most handbags and you’ll be able to quickly find it when you need it. I took a quick look at the filofax.com site and like the Finsbury Collection’s coral and vista blue; the Saffiano Collection’s aquamarine and bright orange; and love the classic notebooks in aqua and orange! For Mama only 😉
